Where is it Located?
The original Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is a 300 year old Rajasthani palace called the Ravla Khempur situated 10km from the nearest town of Mavli. It is the perfect place for a retreat but it isn't viable for the Marigold Retirement Project.
There is, however, another option, a 300 year old Rajput Palace inside the Pink City of Jaipur. This palace boasts 30 bedrooms with many balconies and patios. It radiates the notion of the Marigold better than does Ravla Khempur without its film-makers' props. Neither of these hotels are 5 star hotels, nor do they pretend to be so. The Pink Palace is purely Rajasthan Mughal architecture in its essential form. The concierge is found in the inspiring form of Ali, with all the friendliness of Sonny and none of the wild flights of imagination.
Rooms range from single, twin bed, double suites to family rooms to suit all lifestyles and budgets. Through a secret passage you can find yourself in a traditional and outstanding A La Carte restaurant, which almost unbelievably, will cook and serve a wide range of diets including chilli-free (unless requested) Indian dishes, a rarity in most parts of India.
Although the Marigold Retirement Plan is primarily a personal development retreat, there will be ample time to explore the rich heritage of Jaipur and surrounding districts, and the Palace is in an ideal location to facilitate this. We have honest guides & taxi drivers to deliver you to your destinations and of course learn the prices of things.
Rajasthan is a state rich in artisan heritage and you can visit a wide variety of places where things are made and sold. With guidance you will find the best examples with honest pricing in such things as hand-knotted carpets, precious and semi-precious gems and jewelry, and clothing made to your own designs and choices.
